Halper, Ben Zion

Halper, Ben Zion
(1884-1924)
   American Hebraist, Arabist and editor. He was born in Lithuania and emigrated to Germany, from there to England, and finally to the US. From 1913 he taught at Dropsie College in Philadelphia, becoming professor of cognate languages in 1923. He served as editor of the Jewish Publication Society of America from 1916 to 1924. He published studies of Hebrew and Arabic, an anthology of post-biblical Hebrew literature, and a catalogue of documents from the Cairo Genizah.
